Block Work.

I really enjoy the way some blocks can be made in such a simple way to give quite a striking result.
I wanted to make these ????? blocks and saw that they were made quite simply using jelly roll strips. They are normally cut using a 90 degree triangle template, but I didn’t have one of those so I used my 6 1/2 inch square. It has a diagonal line across it that can be lined up with the edge of the jelly roll strip. Then it is just a case of alternating the template to cut the triangles.
Once they are cut it is easy to arrange each group of four into a block. I have found that I can cut 8 triangles from a jelly roll strip, so therefore can make 2 full blocks from each strip combination.
Here’s a different one sewn together but not trimmed up yet.
The fabric range is Sleepytime by Moda. I am looking forward to seeing how all these blocks look when they are together.
I have also been preparing a few felt decorations for that merry time at the end of the year. These are now ready for a little bit of hand stitching.
I think that jolly time at the end of the year is going to sneak up very quickly now.
Have a great week.
love the blocks… I have also used a 6″ ruler for a similar project…. saves some money!! love your little snowmen…. too sweet…

Love your blocks, and how easy can that be. I have to send this on to a friend of mine who is just starting to quilt. She will love this! You snowmen are going to be adorable. Nothing like getting a head start on the holidays! You go girl! :-)
I think you’re right – it will be here before you know it! Those snowmen are cute as can be before stitching any extras on them. Can’t wait to see what you do to enhance them. I like those easy blocks that look difficult, too. I’ve made those double hourglass blocks and they make a very striking quilt.
Those look just like my Short Story blocks! I found them so fun to make! I, however, was not as smart as you. I figured I could probably make do with a ruler I had, but couldn’t wrap my brain around it, so went and bought the ruler the directions called for. Wish I would have seen your post first – LOL!
Great block, you reminded me that I have some of those laying around somewhere! I must go find them…
I really like that block pattern, and your snowmen are adorable. It’s hard to believe we’re starting to think of snow in just a few short months.
i think you are right Karen and your little snowmen are so cute, well done.xx
Your blocks will be so nice into a quilt, the prints with white look so crisp! I’m with you, it seems the holidays sneak up, and getting a few things done ahead is so helpful ~
:-}pokey
I love that block and have just now realized that it would be a good use of many of my scrap strips!!!
Love your blocks…very cool. Love your snow people too! Hope you are seeing some signs of spring!
