Spring Stitchery.

This only needed a little work to have it finished, but for some reason it disappeared off my radar.
The stitching is now complete and I will take it to the framer when he returns in February.
This is a pattern from Leanne Beasley at one of the workshops I attended.
Christmas Leftovers.

I need to get back on the wagon and start posting a few entries on this blog.
No matter how much planning and work is done, there are always a few things that never quite get finished before Christmas.
This is an embroidery from a design by Christine Book. The idea is to sew it into a star shape and lighly stuff it for use as an ornament. Obviously The embroidery is done, but not the rest.
I managed to sew the back onto one of these button stars, but the other 3 are yet to be completed.
Sometimes there is only a little bit of work needed, but time dictates when they are finished.
Just a follow up to the flood post – there is a lot of support in blogland with many fundraising events. I found a very comprehensive list at
One of them caught my eye. Jan MacFadyen of Oz Comfort Quilts co-ordinated an amazing effort for the bush fires here in Victoria 2 years ago. She as continued to make donation quilts and has now thrown her support behind the relief effort in Queensland.
I know the floods have eased but they are not yet over. There is still a lot of floodwater in Qld and many towns are still isolated.
Floodwaters are moving down through NSW and evacuations are taking place. Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania have all experienced flash flooding and evacuations in the last 2 days. It’s still not over.
And it is not just us. We are also aware of the the terrible floods in Brazil and Sri Lanka. Mother nature is surely sending testing times.
A Quiet 100.

11-1-11
This is my 100th post and it was supposed to be a celebration.
But I am afraid with the floods that are happening in Queensland, Australia, it is totally inappropriate.
Queensland is our second largest state and at this stage 3/4 is flooded. To give overseas readers an idea of size, when less than half the state was in flood they said the area was the size of Texas. Now of course it is much larger.
Up until the weekend most towns had warnings of rising water, but yesterday the force of the rain caused flash flooding that is truly devastating!! Towns have had so many homes wiped out and sadly there are many deaths and even more missing. Thousands of people have been evacuated and many do not know if they have a home to return to. Each new TV update brings more devastation. We are now waiting to see what happens in the state capital, Brisbane. The rain is forecast to continue for at least another day or two, but the water travelling down the rivers will affect many communities for weeks to come. The state Premier, Anna Bligh, gave the best description of the situation – grim and desperate.
The rain and floods have spread down through New South Wales. And we are now getting flood warnings for Victoria.
Several bloggers have already organised some support efforts for the people of Queensland.
Toni at Make It Perfect is organising an on-line auction and all money raised will go to the Queensland Government Flood Relief Appeal.
Gum Tree Designers are asking people to put together sewing kits to be distributed to those who has lost everything so that they can have some solace in their sewing.
I am sure in the coming days there will be more ideas for helping those who have been through these shocking floods.
We had wonderful support here in Victoria when we had our bush fires 2 years back. I know that everyone will show the same amazing support for our Queenslanders.
Delightful.

I had a delightful parcel arrive in my mailbox today. These gorgeous blocks were sent to me by Pauline ( Quilt n Queen ). I was the very lucky winner of her give away last month. I can’t tell you how excited I was to open the parcel and see the wonderful snowmen, reindeer and trees.
The blocks are beautifully stitched by Pauline. She is such a skilled embroiderer. I am so lucky!!!
Have a look at Pauline’s blog to see how she has used the blocks in her quilt. They look great. And that’s not all! Pauline has embroidered several sets of these blocks. Isn’t she just amazing!!!
Sorry – that last photo is blurry.
And just to top everything off, look at the wonderful snowman wrapping paper. (I think the design of the wrapping paper would make a good quilt, too.)
Now I have to decide fabrics and patterns to use with these blocks.
Please visit Pauline. Wander around her blog and have a look at her wonderful work.
Thank you so much, Pauline. I am thrilled with my blocks!!!
Happy New Year.

A new day and a New Year. Love the date, too ….. 1-1-11. I do get excited about little things like that.
Well! I am also excited about the year to come. I had a great time in 2010 with family, friends, travel and sewing. I have had a whole year since retirement and I just LOVE it! Love the idea of being able to do the same again, and more, this year.
I am looking forward to loads more sewing and keeping contact with the bloggy friends I have made throughout the year. There’s lots happening with family, and travel is on the horizon, too.
I hope your outlook for the New Year is positive and inspiring!
Sleepy Santa.

After all the hard work of delivering presents around the world, Santa needs to put on his PJs and get ready for bed.
He has his favourite teddy.
And he wears his comfy slippers.
Thank you, Santa, for all your hard work!
Merry Christmas.

And The Last Of The Snowmen.
Posted on December 24, 2010 | 2 Comments
No chance of snow here. We have a forecast of a lovely, sunny 28 degrees Celsius for the big day. Strangely, though, just over a week ago we did have snow in the mountains. You just never know what is around the corner!

These are just a few more of the Santas I have made over the years.
A Christmas Corner.

Just a little decorated corner. Most of the ornaments are hanging on a cane tree. The embroidery on the wall is Mill Hill. What a shame I didn’t hide the computer cable! The skittles are from Villa and Hut.
Some are made with bells.
