Planning For Christmas.

I take a long time to get some embroideries completed. Especially when they are put aside when other projects take priority. So on that basis I am always pleased when I can achieve a finish.
This is a Trish Burr design and was in Inspirations magazine, Issue 92.
It is mostly stitched with DMC threads, one strand, and is barely 6 inches across.
I have taken this embroidery and the robin I stitched last year to be framed. I am looking forward to seeing the result. Both will be great additions to Christmas decorating for December. I also think I will take on a few easy projects before tackling another of these.
Now heading in a different direction, I managed to finish a cardigan for our 3yo granddaughter for her birthday. The picture was taken before the buttons were on. They ended up being flowers.
And I know I will get asked about the piece it is resting on. It is a crochet blanket and I am following the pattern called The Spicier Life. I am about three quarters through it. That may also take a little while to finish. I am not very fast with crochet either.

May is the middle of Autumn for us but today is still a short sleeves day. No complaints from me!
I may as well start the month with a finished quilt. These have been few and far between but hopefully I am back on track with these.
This is a basic pinwheel quilt made using a jelly roll.
So it ended up at 64 X 64 inches.
I decided it was time to learn how to do swirls with my quilting.
That was an interesting exercise.
I knew they were hard from previous experience and this time round was no different.
I may have to develop my own variation for this one as it is going to take a while to master a true swirl.
I am not complaining, just observing.
The backing was pieced with several greens.
And the binding was a green batik.
And while all this was on the go I made 4 bags to hold bike helmets. They are lined with a very tough upholstery fabric to prevent the helmets getting scratched or dented when in the back of the car.
We have had a run of birthdays in the last few weeks – all grandies. A couple more oldies to go and then a short reprieve. Always good fun.

April Snow Hearts.

April in the northern hemisphere is said to bring April showers. I would love to have some April showers here, too. It is still very dry and the garden would love a drop of rain.
Together with Joan, Shez and Jeanette, I have completed the snow hearts for April from the pattern by Bunny Hill Designs.
Doing this together as a group is really helping to keep me on track. Please visit their sites too to see how differently each one is made.
This is the all felt heart.

Woolly Zip Bag.

Yay! A woolly finish!.
I have completed the wool embroidery, stitched it all up and made a thread carry bag.
Each side is different.
I have used a Kaffe Fassett stripe for the binding and handles.
A small piece of braid covers the join between front and back.
When it is open there are four separate zipper sections to keep embroidery threads. I don’t have a lot of Sue Spargo threads so it will take a while to fill it.
I used another KF print in the lining.
This is a Wendy Williams design. I have combined two of her patterns to make this bag. (Woolly Zip It Bag.)
The embroidery has been a delight to do with the threads and wool.
Now I need to choose my next wool project – or finish a UFO!

Easter Ears.

Easter has arrived bringing with it a long weekend and delightful Autumn weather.
I have made only one little addition to my Easter items for decorating – a crochet rabbit..
He can catch up with a few of his chocolate friends in the next few days.
I am hoping to have at least a couple of these days at home catching up on stitching.

Clear View.

Still not a lot happening here in the way of finishes. This little clear view pouch is the only offering. It was part of a kit from a stitching day with Gail Pan last year. It did have an embroidery to go on the fabric side, but I am keeping that for another purpose.
I am collecting a lot of small pieces from both wool and felt projects and want several of these pouches to use for storage. So, more to come.
Another project that is very time consuming is the McKenna Ryan quilt I am working on. I have found it is one I have to do mostly at home because it requires a lot of concentration. This is just one of three birds for the block I am currently working on.
It is ready to transfer to the fabric and for stitching to begin.
There is a real feel of Autumn in the air here. Still hot days, but definite cooler nights. I like it that way.

Snow Hearts For March.

So far, so good. I have been able to complete my Snow hearts for the March deadline.
And again I have made two in different ways.
The first one is all felt.
And of course
the second one is felt on a fabric background.
Together with Shez and Joan we are meeting our monthly challenge to make these Bunny Hill snow hearts. To have a look at how each person is making them, visit Shez at I Am and Joan at Moosestash Quilting.
We have a holiday long weekend here and to make it even better there has been a lovely cool change come through. It is perfect weather for the Moomba Parade in Melbourne today.

Working With Wool.

Working with wool fabrics appears to becoming popular. I have had the opportunity to be able to work on a project combining ideas from both Sue Spargo and Wendy Williams. The pattern is from Wendy and many of the stitching ideas are from Sue.
The colours are more vibrant than the photo shows, but you get the idea.
All the pieces are wool as well as the background.
Again the colours are not accurate e.g. the background is blue.
The elephants still need eyes and there have to be tassels on the blankets. The pieces are about 12 by 20 inches.
The next step is to turn them into a bag with zipper sections to hold threads.
In a totally different direction, this is a book I made with some friends this afternoon. I was able to finish stitching it together and put the cover on.
It is roughly A5 size.
Not a lot else to report. Plenty happening but no finishes.

Snowies In A Basket.

The felt theme has continued with a little finish – a small penny rug.
Such an easy one to make. As always I have added to the original design with some buttons and a bit more embroidery. Can’t help myself.

Snow Hearts For February.

So far, so good. I am keeping up with the self imposed monthly requirement for Snow Hearts from Bunny Hill Designs.

I am stitching along with Shez, and Joan is planning to join us as well as Jeanette. It is always interesting to see how each person chooses to make the snow hearts as each one is so different. Love seeing the variation.
