Snow Time.

Hooray! Christmas is nearly here!

I wonder if that is what these snowmen are celebrating?
I had a good laugh when I read this lovely wisdom from a snowman. I had to turn it into a mini hanging.

My cards are all posted and parcels have gone, too. I made a few different cards this year, but in keeping with the snowman theme of this post, here are some of the ones I made.

The next week is quite busy so I will probably not have the time to post.
I will take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas.
Enjoy the festive season and have a lovely Christmas.
Red Ribbon Santa.

Yes, I have continued to play with ribbons.
Lots of red ones this time.

I am sure you can guess that these turned into a Santa.

It just adds to the Christmas spirit.
And this is one of the cards I made in a class recently. Loved the colours in this one.

I hope everyone is well on the way to the Christmas countdown.
Not too many sleeps now.
Playing With Ribbons.

A few weeks back I was playing with this lovely bundle of ribbons.

After a little cutting and stitching, they turned into this little wall hanging.

Just in time for Christmas.

This wall hanging is another little finish. I had done all the quilting on it several months ago, but when I went to bind it I couldn’t find the fabric I had set aside. I put the quilt away knowing that the fabric would turn up somewhere. Obviously it did. It turned out it was folded in with another project I had prepared and turned up when I was sorting out some project boxes.

The centre is a panel and then there are two added borders – narrow stripes and then wider star fabric.
I quilted wavy lines below the village and pebbles above it.

Hearts and loops around the hearts.
Stars around the stars.

And some echo quilting around the trees.

In the border there are loops and stars. And stripes cut on the diagonal for the binding – once I found it!

It was a very simple little wall hanging to make. And I have enough to make a second one.
And now for something different. Here is a little dilly bag I have crocheted as a gift.

Hope you have a lovely weekend planned. Our US family is enjoying an extended weekend. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
This sweet little pattern can be found at Groovy textiles.
A Merry Banner.

I am determined to keep working on that UFO pile, especially if it is to do with Christmas.
As a result I have completed my MERRY banner, which is a pre-printed pattern from Rosalie Quinlan.

Rosalie had stitched this as a redwork design, but I decided to play with colours.

I think the original design had ric-rac around each part but I chose to use bias binding.
And then, just to keep the Christmas spirit going, I crocheted a stocking.

It is about 14 inches long.
Now I will have to find some goodies to go inside.
Hope you lots of sewing in your weekend.
Santa Sparkles.

This is another of the items I had on my list to finish when I was recently recuperating. I am pleased to say that it has been done and has even had some sparkles added.

It has been lovely working with the wool felt. It is very soft and so easy to sew.

This project is one of several in a lovely book. Unfortunately I cannot locate it at the moment so can’t give the details. ( I will edit this post when I find it.)
(Okay, found the info. The pattern is Santa’s Tree farm from a book called Quick and Easy Penny Rugs written by Barbie Jo Paquin and published by Leisure Arts.)

I seem to enjoy working with wool felt around Christmas time. Not always a sensible thing to do in our Summer heat.
Good luck with your weekend plans.

Together with a group of friends I was very fortunate to be able to attend Leanne’s House Christmas Gathering.
It was a delightful day.
The room was decorated for Christmas with white table and chair coverings and big red bows. It looked very festive.
Our tables were decorated with our gift bags, reindeer and candles.

Leanne Beasley and Gail Pan each provided a lovely project for the day and supplied patterns, fabrics and threads in our gift bags.

I chose to work on a little Christmas wreath from Leanne. I have stitched it in the colour Cranberry from Cottage Garden Threads.

Even our morning tea had a fun touch to it.

And at the end of the day we were able to take home our lovely table decorations.

Leanne and Gail certainly know how to run a great day.

I am continuing the theme of finishing a few UFOs.
This one isn’t too bad – it was a flimsy at the start of this year. It was one of the tops I spent time sandwiching a month back.
It is a small cot sized quilt.

Lots of cute little owls and a simple meander for the quilting.

A multicoloured background.

I used a lovely blue with white spot for the binding.

I have no particular plans for this little quilt so it will wait until I hear that it is needed somewhere.
In the meantime, on to the next UFO.
Looking forward to a great day of Christmas stitching on Sunday with Leanne Beasley and Gail Pan.

I made a bit of an effort to collect together a handful of items that needed only a small amount of work to finish them off.
I have a habit of finishing the stitchery part of a project but not following up to complete it.
So here are two mini hangings completed.

The sad part is that I started these so many years ago I can’t identify either pattern.
And they only took a VERY short time to complete.
I do need to change my ways!
It Could Be Red October!

I am linking this post to the Blogger’s Quilt Festival at Amy’s creative Side. This quilt is going in the Two Colour Quilt section.
There will be hundreds of amazing quilts to view and inspire. Thanks Amy for this wonderful opportunity.
This particular quilt has been some time in the making. I started to play with the red and white fabrics back in 2010. It went into Amy’s Quilt Festival back in May 2011, when it only had the first border. It then had its own post on Sew We Quilt as a finished flimsy in August 2011.
And then it sat for quite a while. I wasn’t confident about quilting it myself as it was 70 X 70 ins and I knew I had to wait until I found the right quilter for the task. Earlier this year I started an Art Journaling class and met Melinda Gibson. I found that she had her own long arm business called Around The Block Quilting. When I saw her work I knew that she would be perfect for this quilt.
So here is the end result, 3 years after it was first started.

I have to show off the beautiful quilting.

Here are a few close ups of the detail.
The medallion.

Some detail of the feathers and swirls.

The Dresden fans in the corners.

And again.

Delicate detail in the tiniest of squares.

The star border.

And the drunkards path border.

I think I enjoy looking at the quilting on the back as much as the front.

Of course I played with the light coming through the window to show up the quilting.

I am thrilled with the final finish for this quilt and am so thankful to Melinda for her beautiful quilting.
The name Red October? Easy – I started it in October and finished it in October, and the other part you can guess.
