March Hares.

There’s always something that makes me think of Alice In Wonderland when I see hares. I am not sure if these are supposed to be rabbits or hares but the ears say hares to me.

This is another design from Wendy Williams. It is a block from her Hidden Treasures quilt. I am really not sure how I am going to use this yet – either as a separate piece or part of a small quilt. No need to rush the decision.

This is the other one that is part of the set.

The are work in felt on a fabric background. The threads are a mixture of DMC, Cosmo and Sue Spargo.

It has been a mixed week after the fires. Our weather is crazy and only two days after the worst of the bush fire we had a hailstorm. There was also light snow on the nearby mountains.

The main part of the fire near us is under control but there are still quite a few fires continuing to burn in the eastern part of our state. Sadly 29 homes were lost in the fire near us. There have been some wonderful posts on Facebook showing how well the firies worked to save homes and how close the fires got without damaging the houses. I am still in awe of the work they do.

We had an extra long weekend with Monday as a holiday and I am planning to have a quiet week. Hope yours goes well.

Cheers, Karen

  • I just read the earlier post about how serious the fires are and now this post. How disconcerting it must be to have wildfires so close. So sad for the folks who have lost home and property.
Hares and bunnies are just too cute. Odd that we can tell the difference between the two in your lovely work. Rabbits are not just rabbits under your skillful needle!

I love the detail and stitching in your work and how cute is the hare!! I was watching the news about the bush fires over your side of Australia and along with the mixed weather, you never know what to expect. So sad about all the damage done and hopefully all will be under control soon. x

The hares are so adorable! I love their big ears and how expressive they are. I hope the fires are under control now–so terrifying and sad!

They look like Hares to me too and they are adorable.

  • I think Hares too… but either way they are gorgeous.
Perhaps this rain will put out all the fires.

  • I’m glad to hear the main fire is under control. Your hares are sweet.

sorry that the fires were so close… it’s very scary and hard for the families who lost their homes. the firies do a wonderful job and its a testament to them that no lives were lost. I love your hares… just perfect and I can imagine how much you are enjoying stitching them….

All of your blocks from this pattern are adorable. You chose the perfect fabric background. This block is really precious. Glad the bush fires are getting under control. Those are scary situations.

You do the most wonderful wool applique and embroidery, it is always such a delight to see your work. I have only done a very small thing and had trouble with the piece shifting as i stitched around it. Any tips? Do you use pins, or glue perhaps to keep these small pieces from shifting?

What a perfect background fabric you are using for your felt bunnies Karen! Cool with showers in the air here this morning but I see its heating up again..crazy weather indeed!

  • Gotta love the ears!!! Fire, hail and snow all at one time is almost too much to take!! Glad you guys are safe.

Your little Hares are just too cute. Those patterns really are the greatest. Sorry to see all the damage from the fires. The weather has been strange to say the least. Hail after so much heat??? It’s hard to wrap your mind around.
