Sunburnt Quilts

Quilts, Patchwork & Embroidery

And There’s More!

The pile is steadily growing. I now have 112 blocks for the drunkard’s path border. Only 64 to go!

Mystery Quilt Finish.

It is always lovely when the last stitch goes into the binding and a quilt is finished.  This is the mystery quilt I did in a workshop back in January. I managed to have a few moments outside with the camera when the wind eased off, just before the rain bucketed down. It has ended […]

Quilting Away.

I have spent quite a few days concentrating on quilting my mystery quilt.  Last night the binding went on and hopefully today I will be able to complete the hand sewing on that. Unfortunately it is extremely windy here today so no real chance of an outside photo of the whole quilt just yet.

Final Round.

I have been able to add the final round of blocks to my Califon quilt. It is definitely time to stop as it has reached 70 inches in size. I think when I started I was only planning a lap sized quilt, but then it took on a life of its own.  Unfortunately it will […]

Simple And Sweet.

Most of the quilts and embroideries I am working on at the moment are taking quite a while due to the size/ quantity/ difficulty involved.  I think I just needed a change of pace so I chose something quick and easy to make. On a recent visit to Spotlight I saw the owl and leaf […]

Adding Up The Numbers.

Our chilly weather makes this a perfect time to stay inside to sew. The last few days have been busy adding to collections. I have made 40 of these disappearing 9 patch blocks for the final border of my quilt made from Califon. These drunkard’s path blocks now total 47 – about a quarter of […]

7 Down and ……

I am just  starting to make the drunkard’s path blocks for the last border on the red and white quilt. I think I am using about 8 different red fabrics but this is just the tester to make sure the idea is okay. Well, I have made 7 blocks and I have worked out that […]

A Loooong Wait.

It has certainly been a long time since this quilt was started.  I bought the patterns about 3 years back and spent some time collecting the fabrics.  So about 2 and a half years ago I started the piecing, applique and embroidery. There were lots of other interruptions and distractions along the way but thankfully […]

Califon Growing.

I am gradually adding layers to this quilt. I will definitely add another white border and then will have to do some very careful calculating to see if  I have enough fabric left for one more row of blocks. It is currently 5o inches across so I suppose I also have to think about how […]

Slow And Steady.

Some sewing jobs just take time and can’t be rushed. I have been slowly working on the quilting of the Butterfly quilt. Just straight line, in the ditch quilting, but still time consuming. I am almost there, possibly one or two nights and then it should be ready for the binding. There is light at […]
