Sunburnt Quilts

Quilts, Patchwork & Embroidery

A Loooong Wait.

It has certainly been a long time since this quilt was started.  I bought the patterns about 3 years back and spent some time collecting the fabrics.  So about 2 and a half years ago I started the piecing, applique and embroidery. There were lots of other interruptions and distractions along the way but thankfully I managed to come back to it each time and make some more progress. I managed most of the quilting over the last couple of weeks ( straight line in the ditch) and then the binding was sewn down last night.

There are particular parts I like.

All the butterflies, of course.

The flowers and the touch of blue.

And the little embroidered blocks that are made to look like patchwork.

Of course there is always a hiccup. I notice that there are still two butterflies that a need their bodies stitched on.  Oh dear! ( They are hiding at the bottom corner of the quilt.) I will do them tonight – promise!

This is Leanne Beasley’s pattern from Leanne’s House and is called Butterfly Garden.

  • This is a really beautiful quilt. i have often looked at Leanne’s designs but fear I would never bring myself to use a quilt with so much detailed work in it. Do you plane to use it or display it on a wall?

Karen, This quilt is amazing!! The embroidery on it makes it so special. It’s so colourful and fun, just the kind of place butterflies would want to be!! Will you use it as a bed quilt or hang it on the wall, or is it a gift?

Wow Karen I am not surprised this took you 2.1/2 years to finish, there is an awful lot of work in there, you have a lot of patience…it’s beautiful.
