Friday’s Colours of Christmas.

Posted on December 10, 2010 | 14 Comments

This is our last Colourful Friday for this year. I have difficulty choosing the colours I think represent Christmas. I do love the traditional red and green, but I also love the gorgeous colours we are seeing in the new Christmas fabrics. So maybe there is a rainbow of colours for Christmas, too! To illustrate my rainbow I have selected some of my favourite Christmas ornaments and you will see all the colours I love.

Visit Robyn over at Daisy Quilts to have some fun with all the Christmas Colours for this year.

I think it will be evident from these pictures that I adore Jim Shore/Heartwood Creek decorations.

I added this train to the collection a couple of years back.

I started off with the sleigh about 10 years ago and gradually added the reindeer as I found them.

The Santas were the start of the collection.

This snowie came home in my case about 4 years ago after a trip to PA.

This gorgeous box has 3 small Santas inside.

And then there are a few little decorations.

So, as you can see, the decorations are traditional but they have all the colours of the rainbow.

I want to give a big thank you to Robyn for being such a wonderful host of Colourful Fridays and look forward to starting up again next year.

And thanks again to Bev for helping out in Robyn’s absence.

And just to finish off, here are the newest additions for this year. I wonder if they are singing Christmas Carols for Robyn!

Just a little Aussie humour to finish off the Christmas colours post!!!

Maybe they are singing the Aussie Twelve Days of Christmas or does the goanna prefer Jingle Bell Rock?

Some Quilted Trees.

These are a couple of little wall hanging I have made to use for decoration each Christmas.

I think the first one was made from a magazine pattern. It is embellished quite simply with novelty buttons.

The next was an early effort with hand embroidery and machine stippling.

It is always interesting to look back on early work just to see how you have progressed.

Penny Rug.

I do like the ease of working with felt in penny rugs. The felt is so soft to work with and there are so many rich colours in the wool felt. I do most of my sewing by machine so I enjoy the change to handstitching with something as simple as this penny rug. This pattern is called Let It Snow and is by             Sew Unique Creations.

Friday Teal.

Posted on December 3, 2010 | 13 Comments

Teal was a bit of a tricky one for this week.

Finding it was the first thing that was hard.

But taking a photo that shows the true colour was even harder!

Visit Robyn at Daisy Quilts to see how everyone fared with teal this week.  I wonder if anyone has some gorgeous Christmas decorations in teal?

This is a lovely teal photo ……. because it is raining and the tank is filling up. Just wonderful!!!!

I found a lovely pice of batik fabric and a necklace with the right colour.

A lovely wool felt scarf.

A gorgeous photo box crafted for me by a good friend. Unfortunately I just could not get the colour right.

And last of all, the pump on my hand cream.

Have a lovely teal day!

Start Decorating.

All the boxes have been taken out of storage and it is time to rediscover all the goodies inside. It is lovely to see friendly faces, like this Santa, again.

This Santa is made from a pattern named The Heart of Christmas by             Time Worn Treasures. He is about 30 inches tall.

Christmas Gift Sewing.

Posted on November 27, 2010 | 2 Comments

Just trying to make a few extra gifts for Christmas.

This is the start of a table runner or two from a pattern by Disa Designs. Still a lot of work to be done.

I have also tried to make a Bon Bon from a Hatched and Patched pattern.

I think I still need to do a little tweaking on this one.

Silver Service.

Posted on November 26, 2010 | 15 Comments

That would be lovely. Silver service in an up-market restaurant!

Colourful Friday this week is silver. The hardest part of this post was choosing what to include and making a limit. Join the fun by visiting Bev at Kainga Happenings to see what everyone is up to. A big thank you to Bev for being a wonderful host of Colourful fridays for the last few weeks.

I’m starting with Christmas, of course. A new little reindeer decoration.

A  bracelet given to me by my aunt over 40 years ago. And some little silver ingots.

In my other lifetime, when I still had teen in my age, I studied silversmithing. I made a chess set as a major project. One side silver, the other side gold.

The quilt rail in my sewing room.

Two porcelain egg coddlers.

Songlines –

– By the light of the silvey moon….

-Silver threads and golden needles…..

Have a simply stunning silvery day!

There Can Never Be Too Many Santas!

Posted on November 24, 2010 | 4 Comments

It’s a month out from Christmas and I am struggling to make myself wait to put up decorations. I will have to make do with getting a few quilts out in preparation.

This wall hanging was a Debbie Mumm panel. I did a small amount of piecing, but the main work was  embellishing the blocks.

French knots everywhere and hand quilting to outline shapes.

Embroidery, beads and trinkets added.

Colonial knot snowflakes and more buttons.

More embroidery and beads and button trees.

Beads all over the fur trim, Holly buttons and so many knots for the beards.

It was one of those projects that started off small but just grew and grew. It took a long time to finish. Now I can simply enjoy it!

Christmas Ornament.

I do love Marg Low‘s designs and have quite a few of her patterns. I especially like the ones she combines with the cut outs and buttons from Barb ( Theodora Cleave Designs).

This particular one is named Simple Pleasures.

They are so easy to make and have good instructions.  I have changed this one by making it out of felt instead of fabric.

I am hoping to make several more as Christmas gifts and I have a few different cut outs to use in the centre.

A Little Star.

Posted on November 21, 2010 | 3 Comments

Time to get started on making a few decorations and gifts.

This little star is so simple.  Two pieces of fabric cut as pentagons, sewn RST and then turned right sides out. A quick top stitch around the outside and then corners folded in and held in place with a few invisible stitches.

I need to go hunting for the designer of this pattern so I can give them credit.

I hope to make a few more.
