Sunburnt Quilts

Bare Bunnies.

Posted on April 14, 2011 | 8 Comments

With Easter fast approaching I have selected these bunnies to join the picnic at The House On The Side Of The Hill today.  I am hoping to have them dressed by the time Easter comes so they can join their cousin, the Easter Bunny.  Maybe overalls or ……..?

I have unashamedly photographed them on my Pink Snowball quilt. Thank you for all the lovely comments on my previous post regarding its publication in Handmade Magazine.

We may have to take umbrellas to the picnic, unless the drizzle disappears soon.  Wait, there may be a little peek of sunshine.  See you there!

Great Excitement!!!!

Ed: Linking to A Beach Cottage – Good Life Wednesday.

Just over a week ago  I received my advance copy of Handmade Magazine. This was because I have had a quilt published in it. First time, ever!

I was excited to just have a quilt in the magazine but when it arrived I was even more excited as it was included on the front cover!!

My quilt was included as part of the Mother’s Day feature. I am delighted with the layout inside the magazine.

As if that wasn’t enough, I saw it on the magazine stands at the airport as we were leaving to fly to Sydney.

This was a quilt that I had made last year. I had used a combination of pink fabrics from Sewing Connection, in Pakenham, to make a snowball quilt. I had also attended a 2 day workshop with Deborah Louie at the same shop to learn free motion quilting.  This was the first quilt I used to experiment with those skills.

I had made it to use as a  cover for our grand daughter’s bed when they visited earlier this year.

I had no plans for this quilt to be published but was encouraged by a good friend, Cheryl Billing Smith, to do so. Cheryl also has a quilt she has designed in this issue of the magazine.

I have since attended another Deb Louie workshop and am looking forward to developing more skills with free motion quilting.

I really like the way the back looks, too.

A close up of the flowers in each snowball.

And the pebbles in the border.

Thank you for indulging my excitement for my first, and probably only, publication.

A Short Break.

Posted on April 9, 2011 | 2 Comments

We have had a very hectic month but all of it has been fun. The last four days have been spent playing tourist in Sydney. We have had beautiful weather and have had a wonderful time seeing the sights.

Yes, we did climb the bridge!!! It was amazing and well worth the effort. We had a wonderfully clear day and could see so much from the top.

And of course the Opera House turned up in all the photos, too.

We were able to enjoy the market.

Plenty of time was spent exploring all the little lane ways and discovering great cafes and beautiful buildings in The Rocks area where we stayed.

Now that we are back home I have to get used to the idea that I have to settle back into a normal routine. That is going to be a little hard to take!

Secret Keeper.

Over the years I have made many dolls. Far too many to have on display all the time. So every now and then I select a few to come out of storage and swap them with others that have been out for a while.

This very wise looking lady is called Secret Keeper and is one of Julie Mc Cullough’s  patterns from Magic Threads. I have made quite a few of her patterns and always enjoy them.

More Storage.

I really liked having such easy access to all my sewing needs when I bought my Ikea shelves that I decided to go all out and get another set of shelves and doors. I find I am using a lot more of my stash because I can see it at a glance. My only disappointment is that the original doors were no longer available so I had to make another choice.

I thought a quick photo now before I make another mess would be a good idea.

Missing From My Blog.

Posted on April 3, 2011 | 2 Comments

The last three weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind with family ( from Melbourne and US) staying and then having some travel and tourist time together.

This is a little of what we were up to.

It is amazing how much can be squeezed into such a short time. And it always disappears so quickly.

I do hate those airport goodbyes.

Framed Up.

Posted on March 27, 2011 | 3 Comments

Just catching up with a few posts this weekend and will then be away from the Internet for a few more days.

I was able to collect my framed embroideries a week ago. I have a wall recently painted where I would like to hang a collection of embroideries and photos. I want all the frames to be white and I am hoping to have a mixture of frames. This is the start of the embroideries. I have the photo frames ready, just need to print the photos in the correct sizes.

Embroidery Started.

I decided I needed to get back to some “formal” embroidery and challenge myself with more than a stitchery. This is a pattern from Daaft Designs and is making me use a lot of stitches that I haven’t used for quite a while. I think progress will be slow for a while, but I am enjoying it.

Wiggling Away.

Posted on March 25, 2011 | 2 Comments

There has been very little posting happening here the last week or so, but we have been busy with lots of other things.

One of them was to go to see The Wiggles.  Nothing to do with any sort of sewing, but such good fun. I think I enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the grandchildren.

Bears On Bikes.

Posted on March 17, 2011 | 8 Comments

Georgie is a little bear made out of German mohair and is about 7 inches tall.  I find it interesting that along with collecting bears we also seem to accumulate the decorating items too.  I know the background is a little busy but I needed some brightening up as the day was very overcast.

To visit more bears take a visit to Melody over at The House On The Side Of The Hill.
