Still quilting away but managed to find a little distraction!

Flowers Everywhere.

Today is Colourful Friday and Robyn has asked participants to look at flowers. Visit Daisy Quilts to see all the beautiful blooms.
Of course with flowers as the theme there is so much to choose. So I decided to limit my pictures to flowers that have been made, not grown. And even then there were too many choices.
Embroidered flowers.
Applique flowers. (WIP)
Paper flowers.
Glass flowers.
Ribbon flowers.
Button flowers.
Quilted flowers.
This is just a very tiny selection. It was really hard to stop!!!
A Desk Bear.

This little bear needs to take a break from working at his desk and go to the picnic organised by Melody from The House On the Side Of The Hill.
He is a little Settler Bear and came dressed in a warm jumper. He needs that as our weather has turned very cold.
Check out Melody’s site to see the other bears at the picnic.
Slow And Steady.

Some sewing jobs just take time and can’t be rushed. I have been slowly working on the quilting of the Butterfly quilt. Just straight line, in the ditch quilting, but still time consuming. I am almost there, possibly one or two nights and then it should be ready for the binding. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
In the meantime, there has been a little more stitching going on.
Sunsets.

Robyn, of Daisy Quilts, is back with Colourful Fridays. Our task for this Friday is to find the colours of a sunset.
The last couple of weeks around here have not provided any sunsets worthy of a picture, so I did a search through older photos. And I also found another way to fit the bill.
The first two pictures were taken at sunset. Not all the colours I would like .. more of a silhouette.
Sunset in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Balloons at dusk near Philadelphia.
I couldn’t resist these beautiful leaves because the colours reminded me of sunsets.
And then of course there has to be fabric! The colours in this piece remind me of some very spectacular outback sunsets.
Don’t forget to visit Robyn to see what everyone has found for Colourful Friday!
Bears In A Snow Globe.

Another Thursday with a picnic to go to with Melody at The House On The Side Of The Hill. To join in the picnic just click on the link.
This little Russ bear is about 4 inches tall and was a lovely gift from a friend.
He is sitting next to a musical teddy bear snow globe. The figures continue all around the base.
I hope all the teddies have a lovely picnic today!
Bits And Pieces.

It’s a bit chilly out, so a good day for inside activities.
I have managed to pin this quilt sandwich.
Some more cards have been added to the stash.
And I have been able to purchase this book – 501 Quilting Motifs. I have so much to learn about free motion quilting and one of the hardest things for me is selecting an appropriate pattern to use. This book is set out beautifully with suggestions and pattern variations, so now I need to read and practise!
Here’s and example of how each page looks.
Making A Start.

I have started to put the blocks together. Still keeping it very simple.
Four blocks went back together to form the centre and then a white border. Another row of blocks went all the way around.
My plan is to add another white border and another row of blocks. I will then have used up the blocks. I will have to think about what comes next – another white border? or just leave it at that. I am happy to wait and see what it looks like first. Anything can happen.
9 Patch.

A while back I purchased some Califon fabric by Mark Lipinski. It has already been used in 2 other quilts here and here. I still like it and have a lot left so decided to use the charm packs to make the disappearing 9 patch blocks. I am not planning to put them into the standard layout for these blocks but still thought it was a good way to get a scrappy look.
All the blocks are sewn and cut again. I now have to see which layout I like best.
Red Bear.

I have decided to continue my red theme a little longer -don’t worry, it will eventually pass.
I am once again joining Melody who is hosting the Teddy Bear’s Picnic. You can meet the other picnicers over at The House On The Side Of The Hill.
This is a lovely little mohair bear named Merrin is just 5 inches tall and was given to me by a friend.
