Monkey Fun.

Posted on November 27, 2011 | 12 Comments

This cute little guy is going to be a gift. I have just finished making him and now have to complete his sleeping bag.

The pattern can be found over at Twins’ Knitting Pattern Mini Shop. There are some gorgeous softies over there!

And some freebies.

I have also been playing with these sweet little gift bags. Very quick and easy to make.

I first saw them over at Oops-Lah, but then used a tutorial over at A Spoonful of Sugar.

Hopefully there will be a few of these before Christmas.

Is it really going to be December later this week?

Going Green.

Posted on November 23, 2011 | 11 Comments

Quite accidentally, everything in this post is green. I only realised that when I was cropping the photos.

We have a Magnolia Little Gem in our garden and there have been several flowers, but they have always been wind or rain damaged. It has been delightful to have one open when the weather has been very kind.

I have also pulled out my blanket again and started stitching. I need to work on this a lot more before the weather warms up and it is too hot to have a woollen blanket on my lap.

And of course I can’t stay away from the trees. I had to make another one and, yes, it is green. Just for something different.

I notice that Christmas is creeping ever closer. Good luck with your preparations.

Stockings.

The stockings are nearly complete. Only the cuffs to go on. I have to wait a little for those as a friend is machine embroidering the names for me on to the cuffs.

I have also been hard at work making another ribbon tree, same as the first.  There has a been a little tweaking. I hope to make a few more and play with different colours.

Chocolate bears.

Posted on November 10, 2011 | 14 Comments

I am again joining in with  Melody’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic today.  I am going to sit down, put my feet up and enjoy a cuppa and a biscuit while I look through the posts. I am also linking with Marcia’s Minutes For Me – because that’s exactly what I am doing.  I am having some me time.

But I am still keeping the teddy bear theme going.  So here are the biscuits to share at the picnic.

And maybe just a few on the plate to make sure they are just right.

A special cup is also needed for the coffee, of course!

I hope you have some time to relax today, too.

Take a visit to The House On The Side Of The Hill and to Crafty Sewing & Quilting to enjoy all the links.

Stitching Away.

Posted on November 3, 2011 | 24 Comments

No finishes, but some steady progress on a couple of projects.

The ribbon trees are coming along quite well. After trialling a few fabrics I went back to basics and used a natural coloured linen for the background.

The perle embroidery thread shows up well on this.

I have finished the first one and now will move on to the next.

I have also been working on some Christmas stockings. The fabric has all been quilted in a simple cross hatch pattern, so now I need to make toes, heels and cuffs.

Only one has been cut to shape so far.

I hope to make more progress on these over the next few days. But the garden keeps calling, too.

Quilt Festival.

Amy'sCreativeSide
I really enjoy seeing all the quilts each time Amy has a Bloggers’ Quilt Festival. It is wonderful to see the huge variety of designs made by so many different people.
Thank you to Amy and all her wonderful sponsors .  Visit Amy’s Creative Side to see the details of all the exciting things that are happening.
I am joining in with a quilt that I finished just a few weeks ago.
The fabric is Califon by Mark Lipinski. I have used charm packs to make the blocks. I started quite simply by making as many blocks as I could using the disappearing 9 patch method. I tried to keep the combinations as random as possible.
I then chose 4 of the cut up blocks to sew together as the centre and  added a white border.
Another border was added that was made up of the DSP 9 patch blocks.
I continued to alternate white borders with DSP 9P borders until I ran out of blocks.
The quilt ended up at 70 by 70 inches.
I sent it off to my LAQ and had a lovely swirly design  quilted on it. There were so many swirls in the fabric design that it was the obvious choice.
And then a lovely stripey binding completed the quilt.
A simple wide back was used for the backing.
I love the way it has turned into a bright and Summery quilt.
Thank you once again to Amy for organising the quilt festival. I hope you have fun visiting all the sites and seeing the wonderful quilts on display.

Ribbons And Trees.

Posted on October 26, 2011 | 12 Comments

I have to admit that I am often easily distracted. Showing me something new with sewing is like waving a toy around in front of a child. I always want to try it out.

I had been playing with ribbons to decorate trees on Christmas cards.

I remembered seeing small wall hangings made with ribbons used for the trees.  So of course the cards were moved aside and I played with larger shapes. I cut some heat’n’bond into the shape I wanted then simply ironed different ribbons over it.

I will stitch the ribbon down then choose a suitable fabric for the background. And then maybe a little bit of embellishing.

Then maybe I will go back and finish the cards.

A Snowman Quilt Top.

Posted on October 21, 2011 | 16 Comments

At the very end of last year I was extremely lucky to win some beautifully embroidered blocks. They are a collection of snowmen, reindeer and Christmas trees.

The beautiful stitching was done by Pauline of Quilt n Queen. Pauline does the most amazing stitching. She generously had a give away last year of eight of these blocks that used designs from Bird Brain Designs.  This particular pattern is Snowmen and Reindeer blue work.

So over time this year I have been putting together a collection of blue fabrics to use in a quilt for these stitcheries.

This quilt top is the end result.

I used the same fabric to frame each block. It has an ice crystal look about it.

Here are some of the blue fabrics.

The pattern I have used is called Perfect Ten and is from Swirly Girls Design.

I am planning to free motion quilt this with lots of loops and swirls and stars.

I am really pleased with the collection of blue fabrics and love the way the embroidered blocks stand out in the quilt top.

Once again, a huge thank you to Pauline for these amazing stitcheries.  Pay her a visit and see the rest of her wonderful work.

Califon Is Complete.

Posted on October 15, 2011 | 19 Comments

Several positives to report. My machine is back, working and happy.

And so am I.

And as a result I was able to sew the binding on my Califon quilt and hand stitch it down overnight.

My LAQ was incredibly fast and had it back to me in a couple of weeks.

I chose a continuous pattern with loads of swirls as so many of the fabrics in the quilt had swirling patterns in them.

There was a striped fabric in the range with some orange in it, so I used that for the binding.

Today was the perfect day with the sunshine to be outside taking photos.  I know I have to make the most of it as we are having typical Spring weather with plenty of showers.

I do love a good finish!

On a different note, I did try the idea of using the owl punch on some fabric with a stabilizer backing. No good. I tried a couple of different ways but still had no success. Did manage to jam up the punch but a little jiggling around sorted that out too.

Tin Teddies.

Posted on October 13, 2011 | 8 Comments

Today has to be the most perfect day for the Teddy Bear’s picnic. It is  a mild Spring day and the sun is shining. Can’t ask for more that that!

I am linking up with Melody at The House On The Side Of The Hill and joining all the teddies and their friends for the day.

The bears in my photo have been to the picnic before but  I wanted to share the tins I had been given.  The one on the right contains a set of tins inside each other. The one on the left contained a lovely coffee mug.

I hope everyone is enjoying some sunshine today.
