Keeping On Finishing.
Posted on January 10, 2017 | 12 Comments
Having the time to quilt some flimsies is a wonderful thing. I have completed another quilt that has been waiting patiently for a few months.

It is a very simple design but it works so well with these lovely fabrics. I added a background fabric that is cream on white design.

Quilting stayed simple – meandering on the inside and straight lines on the borders.

It seems to work okay.

I had a lovely fabric for the backing that matched the colours perfectly and is a bit of fun, too.

Very cute birds.

I am keeping things quiet around here and am already quilting the next UFO.
I hope your week has started well.
Cheers, Karen.

Starting A Happy New Year.

Happy New Year. It is always good to start with a holiday!
The Christmas/New Year break has been relatively quiet so I have been able to get back into some sewing. As is often the case, I had some Christmas UFOs to complete. So I got down to quilting and binding.

A finish!! I cut up the panel, added borders and included a background. The photo is a little dull as the quilt is under cover. After our crazy hot Christmas weather we are having a coolish day with drizzle. The heat will be back in 2 days time.
The billowy white shape behind the quilt is the apricot tree covered in netting. We have picked a handful already and decided we needed to net the tree before the birds discovered the fruit was ripe. I am planning some jam making and bottling by the end of the week.
The tall plant in the pot is a sunflower and has just opened.

Back to the quilt.
Straight lines in the borders and meandering in the background.

I outline quilted shapes in each panel then added more meandering.

I had a suitable green with a Christmas feel to use for the backing.

And of course I like to see the shadows created by the quilting when it is on the bed.

One UFO down – more to go. I have the next quilt sandwiched and ready to go.
I hope your year has started well and that 2017 is a happy and healthy one.
Cheers, Karen.
PS. Here’s another sunflower – looks like a mini – growing in our hot house.

Small Finishes.

In the middle of all that is busy at Christmas, I have been able to achieve a couple of small finishes.
This is another of Marg Low’s lovely felt ornaments.

I always want to make several of each of these. Maybe if all is quiet after Christmas.
I have finished stitching some of Michelle Ridgway’s gorgeous Christmas animals. (Rag Tag Stitchin’.)

I will be turning this trio into a small banner.
I think the majority of my cards have been received. This was the way they looked this year.

This week will involve Christmas cooking, wrapping the final gifts and spending time with family and friends.
And the weather is warming up. Looks like we have a beach day predicted for the 25th. Sounds like a perfect Aussie Christmas Day.
Cheers, Karen

Apologies to those who have received this post already. I am re-posting it to see if I can sort out some glitches from Tuesday.
Cheers, Karen.
I always find there is one week in the lead up to Christmas that is busier than all the others. Lots of deadlines to meet and functions to attend. This is the crazy week for me. Three Christmas parties down and three more to go this week. All the cards and parcels that need to be mailed have been sent. Decorations are up and nearly all presents are wrapped and under the tree. Next week I get to slow down and relax.
I made these books as gifts for one of the groups I am with. Lovely hand made paper inside.

They can be used as Christmas memory books to keep cards, photos, lists, menus – anything at all.
I made a small cushion as a little gift, too. This one uses a Lynette Anderson pattern variation.

This last one is not Christmas. I knitted this gorgeous little dress for our grand daughter. It looks lovely on her.

I love the detail in the hem.

Time to get back to work. I hope everyone is enjoying their version of the Christmas crazies. Good luck getting ready for Santa Day.
Cheers, Karen

Spring Flowers.

The flowers I have referred to are not the real kind. They are embroidered.
This is the embroidery I have been working on for ages. It is finally completed.

I wanted a photo before it is framed. It is quite tricky once there is glass in between.
All the flowers are embroidered using one strand of thread, hence the reason for the time it has taken.
I plan to work on a few simple stitcheries for a while now, just for a break.
I also managed to complete the last of this collection of Christmas decorations – the green trees ( and a stray thrown in).

Our strawberries are still growing madly and I have made three batches of jam in a week. I may as well make the most of it as they will soon slow down.
Thankfully we are still getting rain to keep the garden well watered.
Have a great week.
Cheers, Karen
Christmas Crazy.

A quilt finish!! Yay! I had a pack of turnovers and some leftover fabric from the Crazy Eights range. I did a bit of juggling and was able to make this lap/wall size quilt.
I headed outside for photos but really battled with the wind. This is the best I could do.

It is a really different fabric to use for Christmas.
I did a bit of FMQ all over.

I used a variegated blue thread. Not sure that the colour changes show in the photo.
There was a lovely stripe in the range that was perfect for the binding.

And as you can see, I had a bit of fun with the backing fabric.

All in all, a good finish with limited fabric.

Hope your week is travelling well.
Cheers, Karen
Felt Ornaments Again.
Posted on November 8, 2016 | 12 Comments
The collection continues to grow. There are more felt ornaments added to the collection.
First up – a reverse in colour from last week. These are white cats with red stitching. Hope they look good on the tree.

Next up I started on some trees. The red ones are first and I am currently working on the green ones.

There you are – a short post!
Cheers, Karen
Christmas Plans For November.
Posted on November 1, 2016 | 12 Comments
The horses are off and racing but I am happy to watch the big race on TV – Melbourne Cup. It is overcast and cool so I hope all the race goers stay warm and dry.
I have decided it is time to catch up with a few Christmas plans and make some decorations. When browsing through Pinterest I found a cat decoration which I thought could double up for Christmas, so made my own variation with felt.

I am now also making them in white.
I have completed this little Marg Low embroidery in variegated thread. It has to be framed in a hoop, ready to hang. The original pattern comes with buttons for the Santa and Sleigh, but I chose to embroider them for this one.

I am sure everyone has lots of plans for November. Good luck with your stitching.
And I hope your horse wins!
Cheers, Karen
Sweet Baby Stripes.

No co-operation from the weather today so some of the photos are a little dull. But they still show how the quilt looks.

It does look very sad and sorry in this photo. Hopefully the close ups give a better impression.

This quilt is made with two and a half inch strips. Most are from a jelly roll I used in another quilt. I added white strips to give some contrast.
The colours are lovely baby pastel shades mixed in with some brights.
I used a serpentine stitch for the quilting.

I love the fabric on the back. Couldn’t resist it when I saw it.

It is a very soft flannel with super cute giraffes.

This pic probably gives a better idea of the quilting.
I found a lovely stripe for the binding that matched the quilt colours.

I managed to sandwich four quilts last week as planned and this one was the smallest. So I still have 3 more to quilt.
Good thing it is raining outside so I can stay in and sew.
I hope you have a good excuse to stay in and sew, also.
Cheers, Karen
