Aussie Garden Twist.

Posted on February 8, 2011 | 3 Comments

I have been playing with blocks on  my design wall using Leesa Chandler’s fabric. It is a lattice type pattern called Garden Twist.  I have picked a couple of changes to make with the blocks already. I had also chosen a border fabric that looked good when the fabrics sat together. However, when the blocks were made, the border fabric looked all wrong. I was able to find another border fabric at my LQS and it looks much better. I will give it a test run tomorrow.

I really do like these fabrics, even though the colours are way out of my comfort zone.

A German Speaking Bear.

Posted on February 3, 2011 | 5 Comments

This little fellow is quite a recent addition to my bear collection.

Our son and DIL went to work in Germany for 6 months. This mohair Steiff bear came home with them as a birthday gift for me. He has a growly tummy. I  have  kept  all his buttons and labels on so that one day I can pass him on to grandchildren as a collectable bear. But then again, we may just have to spend lots of time playing with him!

Visit Melody to see some more bears joining in.

Welcome.

Another one of those found goodies! Finished! I just need to decide how to use it. This is a pattern provided by Leanne Beasley at one of the Glen Harrow stitching days.

I am pleased that I am making a dent in the UFO pile.

Colourful Friday Favourites.

Posted on January 28, 2011 | 11 Comments

Colourful Fridays are back and this year they are happening every fortnight, giving more time to search for those special colours. Take a visit to Robyn at  Daisy Quilts to see all the lovely colours today. Why not join in!

To start the year Robyn asked us to show our favourite colours. Oh dear! Where do I start? I love every colour of the rainbow. And I love them in bright, pastel, country etc. However, I will try to tie myself down. I suppose bright colours are a big preference and so within that I do love the primary colours plus green.

So for today I will have all the brights in red, yellow, blue and green. These colours are evident in my home in stained glass windows, quilts and of course my fabrics.

I have deliberately made myself limit the colour choices otherwise this post would go on forever.

Have a wonderful colourful day!

A Very Loved Old Bear.

Posted on January 27, 2011 | 8 Comments

It’s Teddy Bear day with Melody over at The House On The Side Of The Hill. Visit to see the other bears and check out the pattern Melody is sharing.

This is a truly well loved bear. My husband has had him since he was born, so this bear is 60 years old ( that’s lots older than me!).

I think it is wonderful to have items from our own childhood. It just shows how special they are.

Maybe this is something that can be done while sitting and cuddling a teddy bear.

Embroidered Hearts.

Posted on January 23, 2011 | 2 Comments

Over the past few weeks it has been a hive of activity in our house. We have been busy painting two bedrooms, cleaning carpets, decorating and setting up furniture. In the process I have managed to sort through a few storage boxes that have been waiting  for over 3 years since we moved in. It has also made me catch up on a few UFOs that have needed very little work.

This embroidery has been finished and only needs framing. So at this stage I will have several items to be framed in the next few weeks.

One of the big tasks I am working on is sorting through all my craft magazines. I have been collecting them for nearly 30 years and I think I have kept every one!!! They filled a complete bookshelf. It is interesting to see how magazine content and presentation has changed. It has also been very easy to put a lot in the pile to go out. I  am sure I will only keep 10% of them.  Lots of space for all the new ones!

Mystery Quilt Day.

Posted on January 22, 2011 | 4 Comments

Earlier this week I attended a mystery quilt day. Lovely setting and very well organised. Great teacher.

We had a cutting list prior to the day and arrived organised and ready to go. It was broken into 5 blocks.

There were nine blocks in the centre. We started with the 4 Birds in the Air blocks, then the centre Snail’s Trail. We then completed the border blocks and the corners, too. Of course the reveal came with the cat blocks.

This can now be used as a centre for a large quilt or as a lap quilt. I am thinking of adding a border or two to make it a lap quilt.

My fabrics are Califon by Mark Lipinski. I am pleased with how the fabrics and colour worked out. I definitely plan to do another one of these days. Thanks Cheryl and Sue.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

Posted on January 21, 2011 | 3 Comments

Late!! Fancy being late for a picnic! Sometimes computers and their programs do not want to do the right thing.  Never mind. We are here now.

Melody, at The House On The Side of the Hill, is hosting a Teddy Bear’s Picnic each Thursday. I have made lots of teds over the years so thought this was a bit of fun to join in.

This is my little teddy in a bag. A lovely, simple pattern with the teddy made out of felt. I am having trouble finding the pattern but I think it may have been Teddyworks.

Here’s the bear without the hat and bag.

This is the first week of the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, so visit Melody to take a look, or jump right in too.

Needle-case.

Posted on January 16, 2011 | 5 Comments

This is a little needle case I made from a pattern by Mum’s Moments.

Just the right amount of applique and embroidery.

As I have been sorting through a few things I found that I had tucked this aside.

Now it is back in use.
