Nearly Missed November.

With everything that has been happening I nearly missed November. Talk about getting in by the skin of your teeth!

It has been busy here for two reasons. Firstly, the lovely weather has arrived and a lot of time has been spent outside, mostly in the garden. Sun and rain means everything is growing fast.

Secondly, and far more importantly, most of our restrictions have been eased and we are able to be out and about. We can now travel and are free of masks outside except in crowds. What a huge change that makes to everyday living. We have spent a lot of time visiting family – it’s been a long wait since July. That has been the best part. I am so thankful to our government for sticking to the strict lock down which has now resulted in 27 days without any new infections in our state. It was hard to do but worth it!

I have been sewing, but nowhere near as much as previous months. Half square triangles have turned into blocks, then into quilt parts.

I had several charm packs by Me and My Sister. They were different sets but the colourways matched. So I turned them into blocks that represent birds flying.

Each colour will be a corner with the birds flying out to the edges.

So two more sections to go.

I have continued to finish small woolen blocks for a few different projects.

Sue Spargo houses for Homegrown.

Blocks for Dancing Chickens and Flying Pigs.

And a few more pumpkins for Squash Squad.

The last two are incomplete but will be finished next week.

That’s it for me today. I am going to have some time stitching with friends this afternoon. That is something I haven’t done in person since February. I think there will be a lot of talking involved in this catch up.

Cheers to everyone, Karen

  • Here it is the end of December and I’m just getting back to your blog. Life is crazy during the holidays. I love your stitcheries. Squash Squad is a hilarious idea. The HST quilt is going to be really pretty. I can’t wait to see the entire quilt!
Have a wonderful rest of the Christmas season and a safe, happy 2021!

  • Hi Karen! Your birds flying blocks are super cute! And 11 wool blocks–wow!!! All that embroidery adds so much pizzazz! Glad you’re able to get out more, and the numbers are greatly reduced. How was the stitching with friends?

Those woolen block are so cute and so are the quilt blocks. So glad your state is Covid-free! Enjoy your ‘freedom’! Mauritius is Covid-free as well, only some imported cases that are in 2 weeks quarantine.

So happy for you and your country getting a handle on the infection rate. We seem to just get worse and worse here. Your projects are all so lovely. Enjoy your day out.

  • It is so good to hear that you are out and about again!!! You certainly accomplished a lot last month. The quilt is going to be magnificent and all of your applique pieces are so cute. I bet that they are lots of fun to work on. Since it is time to decorate for Christmas I am imagining that you are in your element!!!!

  • Your birds flying blocks are adorable!! Great job on the applique and wool blocks! It’s good to hear your life is opening up a bit more again.

  • Hooray! It must be wonderful to see family again and great to have gotten the virus under control….long may it continue.

beautiful projects on the go! love all the details in the wool applique ones.
So nice to have some freedom at last! it’s hard to believe we have zero cases, isn’t it. Makes me want to do cartwheels. No more paranoia about having to cough or sniff.
Enjoy your in person catch up!

  • J Benton says:

No meeting up with stitching friends since February certainly is a long time. Enjoy your get together and catching up with everyone.

  • Susan Snooks says:

I think the lockdown caused us to re-think our priorities. I know I’ve slowed down in my lifestyle and not feeling the need to rush around to get things done! So any sewing time is good time. And with such good weather we want to be outside more. I love walking even more now that I don’t have to wear a mask! All your stitching is lovely Karen. The pink and blue HSTs are very pretty. And the wool appliqué looks delightful.
