Sunburnt Quilts

A Woodland Quilt.

Every now and then a particular fabric range catches your eye and becomes a must have. This quilt is a result of that must have.

It is small lap size at 41 inches square. I wanted to keep it simple so used the grey fabric in the large 8 1/2 inch blocks and the border.

I also wanted to repeat a few patterns. The green square in the centre is repeated in the first border and then in the binding.

I wanted the white squares to sit in each corner.

The smaller squares were fussy cut to make sure there were plenty of animals to be seen.

The green fabric features feathers. And the animals are super cute.

I used another green fabric from the range for the backing.

This close up looks better.

I kept the quilting very low key and meandered all over. I wanted the fabric to feature on this one, not the quilting.

I find it tricky sometimes when it comes to planning the quilting because many see meandering as an easy way out. I don’t want every quilt to be done that way, but I do think there is a place for it in a quilt like this.

I found this design very easy to put together and plan to make a few more as donation quilts.. I only needed 70cm of the main fabric and was able to back it with only one length of fabric as it was less than the WOF. That’s a bonus.

Loving the sunshine here at the moment.

Have a great week.

Cheers, Karen

What a beautiful quilt, Karen. I love the simple design and it turned out great! I am new in the quilting. These days I am trying to finish my first quilt! Kisses, my friend.

Fabulous use of lovely fabrics…. shows them off to perfection…. I think meandering is perfect and just what I would have done… it gives texture and doesn’t take away from the blocks and fabrics….

  • Yes, that is the cutest baby fabric of all times!!! I love doing meandering over a quilt. I find it very peaceful. And yes, it’s great when one width of fabric is enough for backing.

I agree about making quilts of this size, especially when it comes to backing them economically! I have some pretty fabrics waiting to be made into a baby quilt. This design really lets the sweet fabric shine! Stippling gets a bad wrap, doesn’t it? I think there is still a place for it and yours looks great!

  • It is so lovely Karen. I love those very cute woodland critters. Whatva great quilt xx
