Bunches Or Bouquets.

I have been working on using up left over fabric from particular collections. And I was inspired by Nancy’s ( Grace and Peace) use of a particular pattern, Honey Bouquet (Villa Rosa Designs).
My aim was to use up left over fabric from Leesa Chandler. These are the three quilts I have made so far.

The first quilt is from the Under The Australian Sun range. It is 54 by 60 inches.

This pattern is great for using up smaller pieces. I had a lovely piece for the backing, but not from the same range. The binding was pieced from several reds in Leesa’s range.

The next one is also from the Under The Australian Sun range, but has been made slightly larger by adding a 2 inch border all round. The same border fabric was used for binding.

Another stray piece was found for the backing and matched well.

The third one was also mostly from a range by Leesa Chandler named Melba. It was a little harder to photograph in the sun.

I had several cushion sized panels I was able to sew together for a backing for this one.
I used a small grey and white dot for binding.

This might give a better idea of colours.

Thanks, Nancy, for the inspiration.
It probably comes as no surprise that I still have some more Leesa fabric to work on – butterflies and flannel flowers. They will have their turn. Prior to these quilts, I have made 5 others that are bed sized using these fabric ranges.
In keeping with my aim to finish off older quilt UFOs, I have worked on a very old one.
Do you remember the original Gardening Angel from back in the 90s?
I was only just starting to work with stitcheries and hadn’t made a quilt yet, when this was done.

I didn’t know what to do with the finished embroideries, so I used a running stitch to attach them to a background fabric. I then made a backing like a pillow cover. And that is how it stayed.
I decided to take it out so that I could quilt it, then also made a hanging sleeve. I have yet to decide on quilting inside the stitchery panels.

And this one is a give away as to how long ago I made this.

I still look back and enjoy this one, but I am also very pleased that my skills have improved since then.
So that is another one off the list.
The weekend is coming around quickly. I have a stitching day with friends on Sunday, so have plenty to look forward to.
Cheers, Karen.

How nice to get so may things completed! It must feel great to make use of items you’ve had for so long. I love that you are making a finish out of your 30 year old stitching. It just goes to show that WIPs may sit and marinate for a time but can still become finishes. We don’t have to rush finishes, they will be fulfilling whenever they get done.
Karen, your Honey Bouquet quilts turned out fabulous! They each so cute and sweet! And I love the backings you paired with each one, as well as your fabulous quilting! Each one is cuter than the next!
Your three quilts made from your leftover fabrics are all beautiful, and I especially love the shades of pink, blue, and natural.
But I’m absolutely thrilled with your embroidery… simply gorgeous… I really like the way you sewed the pieces together with the running stitches.
Love, Viola
I’m only active on the blog… not on any other channels.
Great idea with those quilts – simple but effective. I love the gardening stitcheries, as you say it’s good to look back and see how we have improved sometimes

That is such a great simple pattern for quilts to use up bits. I can see how it would sew up quickly and be great for charity quilts.
Your three little quilts look lovely, are these to be donation quilts? Pretty little gardening angels too, I’ll be waiting to see how you finish this one.
