Hoops And Quilts.

It is definitely starting to get busy. Have you noticed? I think I was trying to ignore it, but it happened anyway. So in the middle of all that I did get some finishes. Two were UFOs. Hooray!
The two hoop projects were embroideries designed by Kasia Jacquot. The first one is named Rebecca and was started a year or so back. Definitely time to have it finished.

It is quite large and is sitting in a 14in hoop. Most of the stitching is done using six strands of DMC. I found it took me a while to get used to that as I normally work with only one or two threads. But in the end I liked the effect it created.
The second one was a new start. This is a 6in hoop and the design is named Magdalena.

This time I used Cosmo threads and really noticed the difference in that they moved through the fabric much more easily, almost gliding. I haven’t noticed it with one or two threads, but definitely with six.
On to the next finish. A UFO from 2019. This was the first of Gail Pan’s on-line BOMs I think. I started off in a rush and kept up with the first 6 months. Now I can’t remember why I stopped. Probably a squirrel. But it seemed a shame to waste all that work so I chose a few more designs to stitch, then was able to pull the quilt together.

Photos of embroidered quilts don’t let the details show through. But a few pics of the individual blocks will give a better idea.

Gail’s original uses red fabric which looks great. I went down the green path instead.

I used four different fabrics to frame each block.

I used a mix of quilting. Straight lines in the sashing and borders. Stippling in the embroidery part of the blocks.

I love the reindeer. These ones often appear in Gail’s work.

More greens for the binding and backing.
Obviously there are plenty more UFOs to tackle, but the garden is also calling. Enjoy the weekend.
Cheers, Karen
