My UFO theme continues. I had quite a few embroideries finished but they sat in the bottom of a tub for far too long. I didn’t want to frame them as I knew that way they would take a lot of space for hanging. Several of them had been presented in simple hoops on their pattern pages, so It was the obvious choice in the end. And very economical on space.

Here is the end result.

This design is by Natalie Lymer of Cinderberry Stitches.

Leanne Beasley of Leanne’sHouse.

Marg Low Designs.

This is one I made up when playing with dresden designs.

And this one has me stumped because I cannot remember the pattern designer.

Once they were all hooped I was ready to hang them. I had found a spot that was normally not used to display any projects – the tiny space between the door frame and the ceiling! All the hoops except one are 6 inches. The other is 7 inches.

Sitting right underneath is my recently cleaned and restored Singer Treadle sewing machine. My hubby pulled it apart and cleaned , oiled and repaired it back to good as new. This is the machine I sewed on as a child and teen, and even used it to make my wedding dress. That’s a trip down memory lane. After some very easy research it turns out to be from 1910. Wonder if any of my current machines will last that long?

While I am keeping busy during the afternoon I am listening to the Fire Fight concert on TV. Lots of great performers all raising money to help communities affected by the recent fires.

Hope you are enjoying your day, too.

Cheers, Karen

Hoops are a wonderful way to show off your fabulous work. Best yet, they could be changed out from time to time, too. I have a machine that looks suspiciously like yours. Now I’m going to have to go take some photos, and compare. It was my mother in laws machine, and she used it all the time. I can’t seem to get into the rhythm of it though, just a few stitches and it stops.

  • Hanging the hoops is a novel concept. And I liked it. I have small embroidered pieces that could not be used anywhere else. Thanks for the idea , Karen!! By the way, all the stitched designs were cute. The antique Singer machine looks almost new. Happy stitching, Karen!!

I love your hooped stitcheries and how gorgeous they look on their display! What a wonderful husband you have to be able to restore the sewing machine, it looks amazing. I have an old sewing machine that sits on the table and you have to turn the handle to make it sew! When my ‘modern’ sewing machine died, I took out my old beauty and used it. It sews much better than the new one ever did.

  • The little kitty is so cute and I love the Dresden. I believe that you displayed them beautifully.

    Hello Karen..

Just catching up on blog reading. Your garden has produced some lovely fruit and veg. Displaying the embroideries like that is just perfect. Love that you have that machine. I have a set of Singer drawers that my Aunt gave to me. They are on display in my sewing room.
    Happy days.
    Bev.

  • Karen, I love how you’ve displayed your embroideries!!! Perfect spot! And you really sewed your wedding dress on that treadle?? Wow! I have one in storage and would like to find a place to put it out for display.

Great post! I love how you chose to display your stitcheries. Mine all still live in a pile, on a shelf. Your husband is a keeper! He must think you are, too, to be so supportive of your craft, enabling you to be yourself!

Lovely to have your embroideries out on display, quite a clever place to put them. I learnt to sew on Singer like that, sadly no longer here. Guess e were all too keen to get one of those modern electric machines, rather than think about keeping the faithful old Singer.

  • The hooped stitcheries are very effective. I especially like the cute kitty. I have a treadle machine we bought years ago and Mr. Muddling rehabbed it for me. It is very nice to have that option. Isn’t it great to have husbands who supports our sewing!

Your stichery will look charming set above that beautiful machine. Well done.

  • Your embroidery hoops look great in that space.
My grandmother had a sewing machine like that & I’m sorry that it wasn’t kept in the family. I really wish I had it but I was only a child when GM passed away. Hubby is very handy by the sounds of it… xox

I love all those stitcheries and you have hooped them so neatly. Great spot for them. How lovely that your machine is fixed up. I have one (gifted to me) that I have used for a quilt top… We don’t get enough power cuts to get it out!! haha…
