Pink And Green Bricks.

Before I jump into showing the quilt, I want to let you know that the winners of the Blog Hop have been selected. I have contacted both recipients and their patterns are on the way. Congratulations to Marilyn in Utah and Maureen in Ontario. And thanks you to all who joined in the hop and left comments. Greatly appreciated.
Now for the quilt. This started off with a very small fabric bundle of pink, green and white. All with spots. I decided I wanted a decent sized quilt so needed more fabric. I was a little shocked to discover I had dozens of pieces in my stash that were not only the right colours but all had spots! I didn’t realise how many spotted fabrics I had in other colours also. Have I been sub-consciously collecting these? A bit of a worry.
The end result with the pinks, greens and whites is this brick quilt.
It has grown to a good size and will easily fit a single bed. I kept the quilting to simple straight lines Along the down seams and across each panel.
In keeping with the stay at home policy I hunted my stash and found a pink backing which came from a Beatrix Potter range.
Then I totally changed direction and went with stripes instead of spots for the binding.
We are now into the crazy mask making phase of the lockdown here as they have now become mandatory. I made a few and posted them off to family to check for sizes. I was stunned when I saw the lines queueing outside large and small sewing stores. I can understand the rush on fabric and elastic, but why are people buying sewing machines? Surely it is cheaper to buy a mask. Yes, I suppose if you can’t get a mask it is the only option. Can you see a large number of machines turning up on second hand sales in the next months and years?
As well as sewing projects I am now going back through old photo albums. I have found our ones from a 7 month trip around Australia in 1981. All the photos are falling out and the album has loose pages. I am naming and dating each photo and they are ready for a brand new album. And that is only the tip of the iceberg!
Have a wonderful weekend. Cheers, Karen
Such a sweet little quilt! Why be concerned about collecting dotty fabric? Enjoy them now that they’ve magically appeared. Great choice with the pink and green. Those colors play well.
Sewing machines as second-hand items sounds like a great opportunity for those who really need a good backup. I plan to buy one for Marly when they begin showing up on FB.
Congratulations on a pretty finish. Good luck with sorting the albums….they will bring back many memories.
It is kind of amazing how we manage to collect a type of fabric subconsciously. LOL!! What a fun quilt you made with your “spots”. If there is anything that this Covid mess has done that is positive, it has been that we are forced to shop our stash. tee-hee-hee. I want to be first in line when the used sewing machines start showing up in a few months. One can never have too many sewing machines…or spot fabrics! hahahaha
I love your quilt! I need to remember that brick pattern. Here it just takes forever to get fabric by mail from many of the on line shops. Also, they just shut a bunch of non-essential things down again here in California. Good thing we have a stash!
Gorgous quilt Karen & I LoVe the stripy binding.
What a great quilt! So bright & cheery. I’m always quite attracted to fabric with dots so I have a nice stash of that too!
What a fun quilt Karen! The colors are so fresh and cheerful and who doesn’t love dots–very fun! The stripe binding is the perfect ending.
Hi Karen! Those dots are adorable! A real addition that you’ve been subconsciously collecting them!!! I love your quilting, and the backing is super cute, too!! We’re into mandatory masks here, too, as of today.
what a lovely cheerful quilt. I love a design like that and as far as I am concerned you can never go wrong with spots and stripes… wonderful if people will get into sewing. I think some have thought its a good way to make money – there was a report on TV on a family who are doing heaps…. People don’t seem to want to buy up here but they are not mandatory … yet….

I LOVE your new quilt, so pretty, and a nice simple pattern too which always sews up quickly. Lucky you finding lots of extra spotty fabrics in your stash, put to good use after being forgotten about for a while.
Love your pink & green quilt! The stripe is perfect for binding too. Yes, I had a few trial runs before the masks I made for family were approved by them all!
Pink and green with dots, nothing could be better except adding a striped binding. Super cute. Masks are mandatory here as well. The schools are still trying to decide what to do in the next couple of weeks, but if the children do return everyone will be wearing masks.
Pink and green is a favourite colour palette of mine! And who doesn’t love spots? I tried to buy elastic on Monday and couldn’t bear to wait in a queue for an hour- way too stressful. So I called in some favours from friends- elastic for masks…..18 made so far. Sizing can be tricky, can’t it? Stay safe Karen!
Hi Karen wow what a beautiful quilt ,love the colours and its full of my favourite spots, and the backing fabric and binding are perfect. Congrats to the lucky winners and good luck sorting your photos out.xx
