Summer’s End.

Summer’s End sounds like it should be the name of a quaint English village.

There I go. Off track and distracted before I even start!

Okay, today is officially the last day of Summer for us, but it never feels like it. In fact I think March is one of the best weather months that we have. Usually lots of sunny days that are hot but never unpleasant. At least I can get outside to take quilt photos.

This quilt top is a UFO that is not a UFO. Sounds like a riddle.

I had 3 charm packs and some yardage that all went together. I kept to a simple layout with diagonal stripes in similar colours and shades. It ended up at around 60 by 60 inches. I had put the first border on and had it hanging over a rail in my sewing room. A group of friends came around for a sewing afternoon and one of them spotted this quilt top and commented on how much she liked the colours and layout. So i offered it to her to keep, with the idea that I would finish it and pass it over. No, she was prepared to find some backing and quilt it herself. Win, win as far as I was concerned.

I added the last border and now it is ready to pass on. So, even though the quilt is not finished, I am.

I have finished the stitching on the last of my Birdhouse stitcheries. Now that all three are done I will quilt and bind them at the same time.

I used a lovely Christmas themed variegated thread from Threadworx.

I needed an easy project to have on hand and I decided to use up a lot of the leftover yarn from several crochet blankets. I have ended up with a selection of squares that will be joined together and then have a border added.

None of my children are interested in any of the crochet blankets I make, but when the grandchildren stay over, they are the first ones to grab a crochet blanket to snuggle under on the couch. So maybe it skips a generation.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Cheers, Karen

Your quilt looks lovely Karen. I made a quilt for my Mum with those fabrics years ago. that is a lovely little stitchery. I only crochet in the car on our road trips. So my rugs take quite a while to make!

Such a pretty quilt top, Karen. How great she’s doing the finishing. Love the cute stitchery and the variegated thread, so pretty. LOL on your grandchildren! I have a granny square UFO somewhere too. It’s way too hot for wool work these days. Enjoy your cooler days!

That IS a win-win on your UFO/not! I recognize at least one of the fabric lines – the Basic Grey – as I’ve been finally using up what I bought of that many years ago.

The reindeer embroidery in the varigatesmd thread is so cute! I love the effect of the thread in this piece.

  • What pretty projects. And what a good friend you and your friend both are! I love it when a friend really likes something I’ve done.
I like those crochet squares. I’ve recently started playing around with my crochet hooks and yarns. Looks like something fun to make. It’s funny how things seem to run in cycles. My grandmother taught me to crochet and I have blankets she made that I still treasure.

Your children don’t know what they are missing, Karen. I LOVE the crochet blanket- the colours all go so well together! And what is not to like about someone else finishing off a flimsy into a quilt! Win-win! Enjoy the cooler weather and hopefully some rain too!

That’s a pretty Chrustmas stitchery you have been working on. Its interesting what you say about the crochet blankets, and the grandies loving them while their parents do not. I dont crochet myself but I imagine your lovely blankets are warm and snuggly.
