Blue Snowies.

Posted on November 1, 2010 | 1 Comment

We had a little break at Lakes Entrance recently and I was able to complete this stitchery by Gail Pan.

Now I am auditioning fabrics to stitch around the borders.

I know we do not have snow at Christmas time but I just love snowmen and can’t resist them!

Blogger’s Quilt Festival for Amy’s Creative Side.

Amy's Creative Side - Blogger's Quilt Festival
Amy, at Amy’s Creative Side,  is hosting her fourth Blogger’s Quilt Festival. I have enjoyed looking at hundreds of quilts that have been entered in the past festivals and have been inspired by all those wonderful people.
This time I have the opportunity to participate too, so am jumping in feet first. Here is my entry!
I love the colour in this quilt. I was determined to use as many of my scraps as I could in it, but that hardly made a dent in them and I did end up purchasing a few more bits and pieces when I was short on some colours! It was a very easy quilt to make and I found that even small amounts of time were able to be used to construct the blocks.
My quilt is based on the Spectrum Quilt design in the book Successful Scrap Quilts by Judy Turner and Margaret Rolfe.  It uses their eight rectangle block  pattern. Each rectangle is cut the same size, but the arrangement of the blocks and the use of colour creates the different patterns shown in the book.
When all the blocks had gone together I used black for an inside border and then used more scraps to make the outside piano key border. The binding is also black.
Because of the size of the quilt, I decided to have it professionally quilted.  Victor at vicQuilt did wonderful work with the choice of design and thread. I just love the red quilting! It gives the whole quilt a sense of movement and ties the blocks together in the design.
Not the greatest photo of the back but it still gives a good idea of the quilting design.
What surprised me most when making this quilt was how easily a wide rage of colours and shades could go together.  I really did enjoy making it.
Thank you, Amy, for again hosting the festival and giving everyone the opportunity to share.
Make some time to hop over to the Quilt Festival and look and all the wonderful quilts on display.

Halloween Colours

Posted on October 29, 2010 | 11 Comments

Just a quick collection of snaps today. The first one is a copy of a letter sent around our court by a new neighbour. The idea is that if you wish to participate in Trick or Treat you put the orange balloon on the letterbox. That way children only come to the houses that want to join in. Great idea!

Don’t forget to go over to Robyn at Daisy Quilts to check all the pics for Halloween Colourful Friday.

Here we go.

Some balloons on a display.

A goodies bag.

Something visiting my fabric colours!

I have had real ones of these flying in a house we lived in once. Hopefully not again!

And some decorations for the door.Hope you have some Halloween fun!!

Pincushion Goose.

I have just completed the top for this fun little pincushion from Hatched and Patched.

I didn’t have the wools to make it so decided instead to use felt.

Still looks cute!

Blue Kaffe Fassett.

Posted on October 26, 2010 | 2 Comments

I have working on this quilt off and on for a few weeks now. The piecing was straight forward – a four patch, patterned white between blocks and single patch corner stones.

I love the colours. Blue and white always looks fresh.

For the centre part of the quilt I did straight line cross hatching. Thankfully easy to do with small blocks.

I added a narrow border of white and then a wider border of one of the florals.

I did some swirls in the narrow white border and then some free motion flowers in the wider border.

It has a binding in a patterned purple.

I decided to continue the bright and blue theme in the backing too!

A Quilt From A Class.

Posted on October 25, 2010 | Comments Off on A Quilt From A Class.

This quilt was made in a class with Jennifer Knol. A few friends attended the class together at Candleberry Country.  Natalie (Candleberry Country) put together a kit for each of us so we could have a wide range of fabrics.

All the blocks are made from half square triangles then the blocks are arranged to create a diamond pattern.

I used a floral backing and had it quilted with a flowing loop pattern.

Binding was done using the same fabric as the backing.

A Little Bit of Aus.

Just adding a little bit of Australiana to my post today. This koala is made from a pattern by Maxine Gallagher. There was a fair bit of work involved in this one, especially with the eyelids, fingers and toes.

No, he doesn’t live in this lemon tree, but the sun was in the right spot at that time.

Oranges and Lemons….

Okay, really just orange – the colour. This is the colour Robyn at Daisy Quilts has chosen for Colourful Fridays this week. Go over and check it out.

Originally I thought it was going to be quite difficult to find anything around my home for this colour, but I was pleasantly surprised!

This  cute little fellow sits on my work desk.

Fabric from a quilt I am working on.

Fabric for a quilt in the near future.

Vases waiting for orange flowers.

A little pot that I think may never see dirt and a real plant – maybe some sewing goodies instead.

Essential sewing tools.

And somewhere to store them.

And last of all, some decorative ribbon.

So it turns out that I am more orange than I thought!

Just Binding.

Nearly there. Just finishing the binding!

Eye ( I ) Spy.

Posted on October 20, 2010 | Comments Off on Eye ( I ) Spy.

I Spy quilts are lots of fun.  I like the idea of collecting lots of fun fabrics to use in them.

Quite often they are fabrics that you cannot find a use for elsewhere but still want to collect. And sometimes they are left from other quilts you have made.

I decided to make mine as busy as possible so it could be used for the I Spy game.

Hardly any need to colour match.

I used the same fabric for the back and the binding and simple stitch in the ditch straight quilting.
