Sunburnt Quilts

Quilts, Patchwork & Embroidery

Start Decorating.

All the boxes have been taken out of storage and it is time to rediscover all the goodies inside. It is lovely to see friendly faces, like this Santa, again. This Santa is made from a pattern named The Heart of Christmas by             Time Worn Treasures. He is about 30 inches tall.

Teddy Time.

There is always something comforting and reassuring about teddies.  This is just a little selection of ones I have made over the years.

A Little Bit of Aus.

Just adding a little bit of Australiana to my post today. This koala is made from a pattern by Maxine Gallagher. There was a fair bit of work involved in this one, especially with the eyelids, fingers and toes. No, he doesn’t live in this lemon tree, but the sun was in the right spot at […]

Silk doll.

A while back I attended a doll symposium in Newcastle and one of the presenters was Patti Culea. This doll was made in her class. We had to dye our fabric first before sewing the doll. We also dyed the fabric for the dress. Sewing the body of the doll was difficult because the silk […]

Sweet Victorian Angels.

A lot of the dolls I make are in the country style, but every now and then I like the challenge of something with finer detail. These brooch pins are a pattern from Julie McCullough, of Magic Threads, and are only 6 inches in size. They actually were not too hard to make as Julie […]

Sam and Sadie.

Sam and Sadie are a pair of cloth dolls from Katie’s Homespun Stitches. They are really easy dolls to sew and the pattern had great instructions. I have made quite a few of these over the years. I made the first pair with waffle cotton – an unusual fabric for the body of a doll […]

Pillows and Stitches.

Every now and then you come across some things that are a little bit quirky. I think this doll and the cross stitch fit into that category. The doll is a pillow angel. I think I found the pattern in a Dolls, Bears and Collectibles magazine. Unfortunately I can’t remember which one, how long ago […]

Raggedy Parade.

And there’s more. I did say that I had made a lot of raggedies and here are a few more of them. This one is from The Basket Case and Needlework Therapy and she is called Raggedy Anngel. The pattern doesn’t have her holding a smaller doll but I must have made this tiny doll […]

Lots of Raggedies.

I bit the bullet and finally purchased shelves to store and tidy up my fabrics. It took a full day of organising but I think the end result is definitely worth it. I can find fabrics at a glance and now am wondering why I waited so long to do it. I wonder if my […]

A Few More Dolls.

One of the dolls I made very early on has remained a favourite. She is called Eliza-May and is designed by Rosemary McQueen from Teddyworks in Australia. The pattern was originally in one of their books and was then reproduced in an early Dolls, Bears and Collectables magazine. With such a cheeky face, you have […]
