Making Leaves.

I am currently working on a quilt designed by Leesa Chandler of Chandler’s Cottage. Leesa designed the gorgeous fabric, Under The Australian Sun.
The main blocks have gum leaves.
The leaves are made in two parts from a selection of green and brown fabrics. Strips of each colour are sewn together then a right and left side is cut from each for a leaf.
The next step involves stitching the leaf shape on to a background using bias strips. The leaves are quite large so I will be making a lot of bias strips. And there are 14 leaves on the quilt.
This is the time I really appreciate digital photography. On looking at this picture I am thinking that the fabric in the bias strips is too dark, so I think I will experiment with a few lighter colours. I will let you know what happens.
You leaves are wonderful. Thanks for showing how to make them. Can’t wait to see more!
I LOVE your choice of fabrics. Gorgeous!
I love your leaf, what a good technique!
Fall is in the air (here!).
I think the leaves look fantastic , what a creative way to make them.
Your gum leaf looks wonderful!! You’ve really captured the colours!! A friend has an electric bias maker , it works like a dream!!
What a great way to get the right look for the gum leaves and the bias edging really gives a stand out finish. All gum leaves are different so perhaps different bias finishes would look good.
Really effective technique on a really simple layout pattern makes for a very interesting quilt. Looking forward to seeing this one finished too!
gorgeous fabrics and a great pattern to show them off!
Wonderful technique….thanks for sharing.
That’s beautiful. It’s kind of fun playing with strip sets and cutting out shapes. I should do that more often! Now I can’t wait to see what this project is going to look like completed! :-)
Looks fantastic.Great fabrics!!

Gosh that is so effective… I’m looking forward to watching this one…
